The figures quoted are our estimates for IMS only. Different subsystems will have different costs associated with them.

$1 - 2M, is a very large figure, so if I have different subsystems (as often we do in test) would the cost multiply, or its inclusive in the figure ?

Marcel - I completely agree with you. The point I was trying to make was the difference in opinion of the importance of cloud computing between the technical guys, who are up to their eyes with work, and their more strategic managers.
I firmly believe that, this time next year, most mainframe sites (and SMEs) will be working on a cloud strategy or developing the one they already have in place.

Trevor, maybe I need to clarify the reasons for CA doing the Cloud-Mainframe survey.
When distributed systems appeared, the end of the mainframe was announced shortly after that. Today, many mainframes "feed" a lot of distributed systems and a lot of distributed systems today connect to the mainframe for good reasons.

CA Technologies was trying to find out if people expect the same to happen when their companies move to Cloud and the answer was a clear "YES"..

ANY application gets more valuable when you combine the "new" with your most precious asset: Your existing data. And since a lot of THAT is still on the mainframe, many Mainframers see a role for the mainframe in any Cloud initiative. You also have to remember that we interviewed Mainframe clients only. And since these are mostly Fortune 5000 companies, they all have some Cloud strategy in the making already...
