Computer Pioneer and DEC Cofounder Ken Olsen Dies

Ken Olsen, a pioneer of digital technology, died Sunday. Olsen, 84, co-founded and headed Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC), which developed one of the first commercial computers and helped usher in a new, post-mainframe world.
In a letter to Gordon College, which announced his death and where Olsen had been a trustee, Microsoft co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates said Olsen was “a major influence in my life, and his influence is still important at Microsoft through all the engineers who trained at Digital.”
